I'm afraid Ms. Quick's stories are thinning out. This one was not like previous ones that I pored over and enjoyed thoroughly - more mediocre mystery. The characters - one of which was from another book - were not particularly affecting. Perhaps it's time to start another series...

I don't normally read romance, and I have an excuse for this book, in that I really was not aware it was considered a romance. That said, I enjoyed Ms Quick's writing and the story! It was a fun read, and took me into the world of gas lighting and horse-driven carriages. What fun! I highly recommend it!

With fog shrouded streets, a mysterious killer, a former agent who carries a cane and a wounded heart and a heroine who is in hiding, this historical romance has a delightful touch of mystery. There are no huge surprises and you'll enjoy watching the leads fall for each other.

I really enjoyed the "Crystal Gardens" which was the first book in this series. It had a refreshingly interesting twist to the paranormal side of the story. In this tale, we have a lot of conversation, all on the same topic - hero "I don't have a paranormal talent and I don't believe in the paranormal - heroine "I have a genuine paranormal talent and so do you". Yawn. There were too many clues to the "surprise" twist at the end - I saw it coming a mile away. The problem here is I didn't really care about Joshua and Beatrice. At the end of the book, I know just a little about them. The hero and heroine just weren't fleshed out; I never got a 'feel' for either of them. They seemed to go from politeness with each other to love, and, frankly, I just didn't see it.
