One of the rewards of acquiring and refining one's cooking skills is the compliment one once in a while receives. One that I especially liked came during the early years of marriage, when New Hubby and I invited a couple of his co-workers and their wives to supper. For dessert, I made an apple pie. One of the young husbands, upon tasting it, said to me "Would you marry me next Tuesday?" Of course, we all laughed at him. My older daughter got a beaut of a compliment from a fellow teacher, a middle-aged bachelor. She gave him a batch of Toll House cookies (made from 'scratch') and he told her "These are BETTER than my Mom's!" Did you ever get an extravagant, or goofy, or odd or off-beat compliment on something you fixed? |

One time, when I was a newlywed, I made homemade ravioli for my husband, stuffed with his favorite cheese. When asked, he said, 'It was okay.' I said, 'Well, you certainly won't be having that again.' Oh, that's the opposite of what you mean, LOL. I've always took eating seconds or cleaning the pot to be the greatest compliment ever.
