Book 1 of the Hollywood After Dark [multi-author:] series. The hero is a vamp - but not one who drips threat or testosterone. The heroine is a down-on-her-luck singer who is asking for a job as a bartender. Since the bar that he owns serves paranormals as well as humans, he refuses to give her the job without 'marking' her. They both have intimacy and control issues, vampire politics intrudes, love ensues... Nice read-once.

Unique world full of vampires, shape shifters and spell casters. Vampires have companions that can supply them with blood more often than humans, but require a mental link between the two. Since Jonathon and Sharon both have serious issues with linking and trust, there doesn't seem to be a way for them to stay together. When vampires and companions start dying, Jonathon has to make a choice about staying in his comfortable world or taking the responsibility his age requires.
