I absolutely love An Obvious Fact. Just looking at the cover puts a big smile on my face. Almost every single character we've grown to know and love makes an appearance here. Daughter Cady phones hers in, but it serves to make us wonder if Walt is finally going to break down and get himself a cell phone. Henry has plenty to do especially with Lola around, and Dog makes his presence known on more than one occasion. But the character that brings the most to this banquet table of a book is Vic Moretti. I refuse to tell you what all she gets up to, but--trust me-- it's marvelous!

This is another of Johnson's first-rate mysteries. Your kinder, gentler side does get involved occasionally because you just can't have a main character who's described by Vic as a "detective for the disenfranchised" without bringing those heartstrings into play, but the humor is what I loved the most. Be prepared to laugh. A lot. Not many writers can do dialogue like Craig Johnson.

I could go on for page after page about how good An Obvious Fact is, but I won't. What I will say is that-- if you haven't read any of these Walt Longmire mysteries-- get your hands on the very first one, The Cold Dish. Start reading. You'll be hooked and itching to get your hands on all the rest of the series. I read a lot of mysteries, from the coziest of cozies to the hard-boiled detectives. I have several favorite series that I keep up-to-date with. But truth be told, Craig Johnson's Longmire mysteries are at the very top of my list. I'm already chomping at the bit for the next installment.

Sheriff Longmire and associates are at it again. Not my favorite, but still pretty entertaining.

Another very good entry in the Longmire series. I have been reading these off and on for the past several years since seeing and enjoying the excellent Longmire TV series. This is number 12 in the series and one I had not read even though I've now read all of the previous novels and a few after this one. This one has Walt along with Henry and Vic investigating a hit and run involving a young motorcycle rider near Devil's Tower National Monument in Northeast Wyoming. The accident was near the town of Hulett, Wyoming, where they are in the midst of part of the biggest yearly motorcycle rally in the country taking place in nearby Sturgis, South Dakota. The story involves biker gangs, an undercover agent from the ATF, possible gun and/or drug trafficking, and someone from Henry's past, the legendary Lola, who is the namesake for Henry's 59 Thunderbird, and by extension, Walt's granddaughter who was named after the Thunderbird. As Walt, Henry, and Vic investigate, it becomes more and more clear that the hit and run may be more than a tragic accident. Is the young motorcyclist involved in drug trafficking or something even more serious? Why are the Feds looking closely at the accident and the possible reasons for it? How is Lola involved in all this and will she get back together with Henry?

I really enjoyed this one and consider it one of the highlights in the Longmire series. It included a lot of humor in telling the story as Walt, Henry, and Vic try to solve the mystery of who and why the young biker was run off the road. And did the biker have a special relationship with Henry? Henry also has some fun in this novel; he participates and wins a motorcycle hill climb and for the trip he brought along Walt's copy of the Annotated Sherlock Holmes which he is constantly quoting from. And Vic rents a souped up Dodge Charger that she uses to run away from the local Highway Patrol going upwards of 150 mph and she also manages to participate and win the Hulett skeet contest. Really some good stuff in this one and I'll be looking forward to reading the next in the series and the others I have missed.

Twelfth in the Longmire series, and with the usual serious investigation mixed with some dry humor.
It's a good read but it's lacking in the spiritual bits that Johnson usually includes. With Walt away from Absaroka County again, we don't see anyone from the office except Vic who is her usual profane self. I wanted to know more about how Lola so captivated Henry 30 years ago; we leave this book knowing only a tiny bit more than we did, and she's not a nice person. The whole business with Bidarte is still hanging fire so I'm sure we'll see more about that later (frankly, those types of story arcs are not my favorite, but oh well). I like seeing how many people Walt knows around the state, and how they trust him to take care of matters. I loved the MRAP vehicle and its eventual use, that was very funny.
