The Prisoner's Wife by Susan Page Davis is a very sweet inspirational. Lucy Hamblin loved Jack Hunter and wanted to one day marry him. Jack had asked Lucy's father four years earlier for Lucy's hand in marriage and was denied. Mr. Hamblin did not want his daughter associated with those ne'er-do-well Hunters, no matter that Jack was trying to shed his father's terrible reputation.
Jack has inherited his land from his father. Jack's mother passed away not too long after his father and since Jack has been working the land and trying his best to get everything respectable. He has been working in the hopes of earning Lucy's hand and proving himself an able provider.
Then one day everything changes. Jack is accused of murdering his crochety neighbor Barnabus Trent. He sits in jail for over a month waiting for a trial to held. If the villagers have their way, Jack will be hung the same day as his trial.
In order to save his farm, Jack asks Lucy to marry him and look after his farm. He is trying to prevent anyone getting what he has worked so hard to gain.
This book was a great read. I usually don't enjoy the Heartsong Presents books this much. This one was special. You could really feel the desperation of the characters. I would highly suggest this book for a quick, uplifting read.

A heartwarming historical romance from Heartsong books.

Jack Hunter's father was a drunk and a criminal, and Lucy Hamblin's father believed the apple lay near the tree. When her father forbade their love, Lucy buried her heart out of obedience, but she never stopped loving Jack. On a strange evening four years later, she's summoned to the local jail. Jack has been accused of murder and has a request to make of Lucy. When his trial is dismissed, Jack has a new worry: Lucy agreed to become a prisoner's widow, not the wife of the man her father despised.
