...When they arrived at the ER, the nurses on stand-by rushed to the aid of the EMTs. The EMT rattled off the vitals and what happened at the scene. The EMT that had gived the burn victim aid remembered the baggie of skin scrappings. "Hey!" the EMT grabbed the shoulder of a nurse aid in the hallway that was rushing to the triage room. "Can you get this DNA STAT? And let me know what they find?" The aid looked torn. A STAT order meant hand-delivery. Wanting to go to see the new arrival and needing to follow orders left the aid snatching the baggie and clipping it to a board. The aid made a few notes and headed towards the bank of elevators that would take him upstairs.

Meanwhile in the triage room...

Though the naked sex was undetermined, the body was small, but did not have curves. Could be a young boy or prepubescent girl. The genitals were scarred and from brief examination could not be identified as male or female. The nurses tried to focus on getting vitals stable and not let the strange appearance of the being on the bed make them anxious. Something about its presence could be felt within the room, like a heavy weight. A quick glance at each other verified. They had had to make some phone calls. The CDC and perhaps the government.

When the nurse arrived at the lab to have the skin tested, she found that the door was ajar. Knocking lightly before entering, she found a small bent-over man with tufts of frizzy white hair. "Hey. Can I have this skin-sample tested? I would like to know what exactly it is."
"Well, I can have it tested for you, but right now I'm in the middle of testing this rare metal, found just off the highway of a horrible said-to-be UFO crash."
"As it happens, I have some skin-samples of the said-to-be passenger of the UFO crash. So you could test this while you test that. Just a suggestion of course."
"Yeah! I'll do that! Thank you. I think it'll be done by tomorrow evening."
"Ok! Great. Thank you. See you later."

The sample bubbled and a strange thing happened. It was being kept in storage. No one could see the transformation. Small hair-like tendrils spread out from the flakes of skin. They passed through and around the other samples in storage. Gathering genetic information as easily as brushing the side of the surface of whatever it touched.
One of the tendrils found a vent. The draft sucked and the pressure pulled at the tendril. It was plucked form the alien skin flake. It would make a journey. It would end up being part if a high school freshman named Taylor Hill. She would never be the same.

"Katie, look at this! Theres something on the floor and it moving. I think it a bug. Haha"
"Taylor, you know i hate bugs. And anyway, we shouldn't be here at the hospital at this hour. Work hours for us ended a while ago."
"Oh, don't be a party-pooper. I just want to see whats in the lab. Come on, nothings gonna happen. We'll be fine. I just want to check out that alien if it really is here."
"Oh, alright. But if we get caught, I'm telling them you forced me to come."
"Fine, fine. Lets go."

Katie Moore and Taylor Hill. BFFs since second grade, where pretty much inseperable. As they walked to the lab, a good 10 minute walk from where the entance was, they were surprised to find that there were hardly and people on the third floor of the hospital. As they neared the lab, something was floating through the air vents just waiting for a host. When Taylor and Katie opened the lab door, there was a slight air suction. "Taylor, Taylor! Look at this thingy floating through the air."
"Wow. I wonder what it is. Im gonna touch it."
"Eww. No don't. That thing might be a bug. And it probably had germs all over it."
"Oh, well, I don't care. Here goes."
Taylor reached out and touched it. It felt soft and feathery. "OUCH! It bit me! Eww, eww, its getting in my hand! Get it off, get it off!"

Interesting...although, I'm not sure I'd describe the tendril as looking for a host this early in the story. Might hold that back a bit longer...let people wonder what will happen to the girl...
