First, let me say that I loved the imagery in this book. I'm a sucker for imagery, and Croggon really knows how to turn it out. The concept is simple, though, and fairly hackneyed (female orphan with magical powers discovered, etc etc), and Croggon does too much of a Lord-of-the-Rings-esque journey to really beg a reread, which is why it's up for the swap. It's a pageturner, but not a book I'd call really enjoyable - doesn't have verve, and since the epic part sort of left me a little cold, it's hung around unread for almost a year. Also, I couldn't stand the orphan's mentor, and having him around just bugged me, which is why the lower-than-usual review.
