I'm not sure I've read any bad books in this series. In this book at least Billy's and Kaz's loved ones are safe in a hospital in England. However, Billy and Big Mike aren't safe. They are on their way to an air base in Soviet Russia by the quickest route----across Nazi Germany as part of a bombing mission. And one of them doesn't make it all the way. While Kaz takes a longer route through Iran, due to his recent surgery.

When Billy finally gets to Russia he is assigned to work with---of all people---an old enemy he hoped was dead. While there Billy discovered that what is "the truth" in Russia changes every day, and it's like walking through a mine field. Speaking of which, some people get to do it for real.

Who the criminals really are, and what they stole, remains a mystery almost until the end. Then it's a race across national lines to capture them before they get away.

Meanwhile, Billy gets a chance---not his choice---to fly on a bombing mission with one of the famous Night Witches. I read a book about them earlier this year---"A Thousand Sisters"---and these ladies were amazing. I'm glad Benn wrote them into the novel.

Although this book is WLed, I must return my copy to the library.
