I have mixed feelings about this book. The beginning was good with some of the colorful characters along Jack's journey. The end was good with the descriptions of America and the people and beauty therein. But much of the center of the story resembled a drunken, drug-induced, sexually-frenzied beatnik environment. I understand why it is on the "1,001 books to read...list", but I don't think I could have plowed through the book in print. One great thing about the audio cd was the reading by John Ventimiglia was absolutely brilliantly done!
