The 3rd book in the McKettrick Cowboy trilogy. This is Jeb and Chloe's story as Jeb attempts to win the bet laid out by his father that the ranch will belong to the first of the sons to marry and produce a grandchild. As with the other brothers, the path of love does not run smooth for Jeb and Chloe. Their relationship makes for an interesting story.
It is not necessary (but it is helpful) to have read the other 2 books in the trilogy - High Country Bride and Shotgun Bride. Having the background of the previous 2 books helps to understand all the family dynamics. Characters introduced in each of those books are included in this book.
As with all of Ms Miller's books, her characters are fully fleshed out and their antics bring smiles to your face as you read of their exploits.

Love LLM's books: just the right amount of romance, humor & suspense.

Jeb was charming and witty in the previous 2 books of this series. However, when he got his own story he seemed to be drifting through life and a bit spoiled. Chloe Whitfield turns out to be Marshall John Lewis daughter (Lewis died in the last book and was the love interest of the Arizona Hotels owner). This was one of the two major coincidences that ruined the book, in my estimation.

Chloe rides up to the Triple M Ranch -- with fire in her eye; shes looking for her husband, Jeb. There seems to be a question of whether Chloe bothered to divorce her 1st husband (Jack Barnett) before marrying Jeb. Most of the story revolves around their arguments about whether or not she is legally married to Jeb.

Thank goodness Ms. Miller added other love interests to this book because 430 pages of arguments between Chloe and Jeb would have gotten old pretty quickly.

The second (rather large) coincidence occurred in the chapter before the Epilogue. I dont want to ruin the surprise, but it takes place on 4 July 1887. The possibility of this happening must be 1 in a billion, or so. Its ridiculous.

Fortunately, the next story about Holt is excellent.

Secondhand Bride with Jeb & Cloe McKettrick, was as good as High Country Bride with Rafe & Emmaline McKettrick and Shotgun Bride with Kade & Mandy McKettrick. I love Linda Lael Millers books. She is a great author and she keeps you interested in the story. Each bride was a strong individual and uncowable by these men. Each had a story unique from the others. I love that Ms. Miller included a story of their step-mom and their dad and their bundle of joy. I also liked that Angus McKettrick, the dad, had a son, Hold Cavanaugh/McKettrick, before these three and he is brought into the stories and in Secondhand Bride more of his story is told and he has a child that is introduced. I don't like the bargain Angus invokes upon his sons and in Secondhand Bride he includes Holt in the bargain. I think it was awful of him to pit his sons against each other. I love how Emmaline, Mandy and Cloe and I think Conception, boys step-mom, worked it out in the end. I also have to hand it to all those women who signed up to become mail-order brides. Although it seems adventureous I'm not sure I'd have wanted to be one. Enjoy!
