This is a great sweeping epic if you have a long car trip or big project to work on. I did not initially keep all the characters straight in my mind, but just listened and went with the flow. (It is digitally available all at once, at least from my library.) There is a lot of violence (torture, beheading, suicide, battles) and some sex, although most is obliquely referred to as "pillowing." It was great to get lost in another culture.
