In the opening paragraphs, the author laments that sometimes the victim is known by the neighborhood, and sometimes it is a traveling victim who has no one to care for a final resolution. Yet, the detective's dogged determination to find justice is what cracks complex cases.

One interesting case was one that, instead of being the murder of two teen females, was a freak accident. Forty-plus years later, when the water in a local river receded significantly, the missing car (with the girls) appeared under a bridge.

This author points out the difference between the date of the victim's death and the date of conviction. This author writes in a readable, entertaining style.
