I almost never read middle grade or YA books, but A Summer to Treasure by Leslea Wahl might change that. As an involved grandmother myself, I really enjoyed this story about three generations of family taking a summer road trip to several national parks. What's sweeter than three teen siblings giving up their summer plans to please their beloved grandma? (I hope I'm fostering bonds like this with our very young grandchildren.)

The plot includes themes of coming of age, mystery, adventure, family bonds, and faith with a nod to romance. The writing was easy to read but never felt childish. Conflicts among the siblings that felt realistic kept it from being overly saccharine. This would be excellent for parents/grandparents to read this summer with the children in their lives.
