Not as good as his other books. This was Winchester's first book, I believe, and it starts with more passion than the others (he got his first fame as a muckraking journalist exposing the deportation of the natives of Diego Garcia and environs). It gets a bit repetitive hearing about all of the quaint customs and absurdities of the various spots. I guess since he wrote this the population of British Colonies has decreased 90%, since Hong Kong is gone.
