This was a good book,enjoyed the story.
At best I can say this book is slightly below average. From the first page, I really struggled with getting into the story and getting to know and/or care about the characters. At page 20 I decided it was getting better and worth continuing. By page 100 I started to get interested in the mystery of the story, but not because I really cared about the main charater Cassius or the victim Emoline, but because I'm always intrigued by mystery. At page 200, my interest plummeted and the only reason I cared to find out who killed Emoline was because that meant the story was almost over.
I'm not saying the writing was bad, but Mr. Fuller fails at story telling. I just didn't care about his characters and the war scenes were extra droll. And while I probably should have been rooting for Quashee and Cassius, but I just didn't care.
Some pluses were the themes of revenge and self idenity. The scene were Cassius thought Emoline's killer was dead really stands out in my mind. Even Cassius's goal of seeing her killer dead came true, he realized at that point he was still very angry. That person's death didn't quench his vengeful feelings
