Layafette O'Leary is a draftsman who is down on his luck and almost out of a job. Then an experiment with self-hypnosis lands him in the magical world of Artesia. He gets out of jams by wishing himself back and forth from Artesia to Earth, but then that gets harder to do. So, he faces the fact that he is in Artesia to stay and sets off to win the hand of the princess by slaying an evil ogre who lives in a Las Vegas-type casino. Everything seems to be going according to plan, but to whose plan? And even though the princess is drop-dead gorgeous, is she really Miss Right? This is the first book in a short fantasy series by a well-known sci-fi author.
I couldn't get into rooting for the main character.
