Lorca spends much of her life poring over cookbooks learning the love of her distracted mother, a chef, who wants to send her off to boarding school. In desperation of proving herself, she resolves by tracking the recipe for mother's ideal meal. She takes cooking lessons from Victoria, an Iraqi Jewish immigrant who is shaken by her husband's death. Lorca & Victoria develop a deep bond while cooking together - masgouf, baklava, date spread & other delicious foods. Each's endeavor must deal with their past, the future, and the truth. An excellent read!
