FROM THE CRITICS
"Library Journal
This book is for people who got lost in math class somewhere back in grade school. First it tries to calm the reader's fear of math by explaining the roots of math anxiety. Then it offers techniques for solving types of math problems that include such difficulties as decimal points, fractions, percent signs, and unknown quantities. The author takes a very visual approach, showing how to clarify math problems by drawing pictures. The explanations use practical examples from consumer math such as balancing checkbooks, calculating tips, figuring a pay increase, or altering recipes. This is a good book for coping with everyday math; for college-level math, consult Sheila Tobias's Succeed with Math (LJ 1/88).-- Amy Brunvand, Fort Lewis Coll. Lib., Durango"
