If you want a good series to stick with then make it this one and start at the beginning as that will help to keep up with Andy Carpenter's personal life.

These books are so well written, they don't get 'heavy' or draggy, there is a lot of good humor throughout that keeps it on the light side even though it is about crime and you don't have to deal with constant bad language which is refreshing to read a book without the 'f' word showing up on each page.

I'm a huge fan of the Andy Carpenter series, but this was not one of his best. Of course I love his wit, repartee and humor and all the times I laugh out loud. My favorite character is Marcus!! He's a hoot!

Andy reluctantly takes on a case of an imprisoned innocent man, but there were so many different characters and killings it was somewhat confusing. It just didn't flow well and I found myself looking back to find out who was who.

However, David Rosenfelt is one of my favorites and I will continue reading his books and look forward to the next one.

It takes about 1/3 of the book for the opening clues to begin to make sense. It takes a dog to get Andy Carpenter to emerge from retirement to go to bat for a legal client. And it takes the reader about 10 minutes to figure out this is going to be fun. Make no mistake, each book is standalone. However, I suggest that you binge-read (like I did) through the first few books quickly.

Then you will need to pace yourself because David Rosenfelt is spending more time caring for his golden retrievers than writing books. He only seems to be releasing a book per year. Try to get a copy of Grover Gardener reading; he is perfect in every way. The sarcasm rolls off Gardener's lips. My husband started listening because he heard me howling with laughter at the Andy Carpenter books via Grover Gardener.

My problem is: What do I do after I finish the two nonfiction and two Andy Carpenter books I have remaining? Bummer.

Easy read and good page turner. Always like Andy Carpenter, the wise-cracking attorney.

13th in the series.

Andy was a little slow in this book. Not as much wit and twists like his first books.

This book starts with a specific dog being stolen from the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization owned by Willie Miller and Andy Carpenter, lawyer extraordinaire. They have GPS chips on their collars of the shelter dogs, so they figure out where the dog is, but they wait for Captain Pete Stanton of the Paterson, NJ police to come and assist them. Of course they find the body of a recently dead man next to the dog. This leads to Andy getting a client, the person accused of killing the man. We are learning more about Laurie and Andy's new son, Rick. Andy is adjusting to fatherhood quite well. With the usual cast of characters, Andy leads the way through seemingly unrelated clues. And it is all done with his trademark sense of humor. I love these books!
