Great biography! Fascinating look at the Middle East in recent history through the eyes of an outsider who became an insider by marriage.

One of my favorite books of all time! You have to read it unabridged, though it's not an easy task; I love a lot of the parts that are taken out when it's shortened. What an amazing work.

This book and his others give glimpses into the daily lives of families around the world. He has representative families from many different countries and cultures take out all the possessions and arrange them in front of their homes, and takes their pictures with all of it. There are lots of interesting details about the possessions and the lives of the families. His other books are Women in the Material World, and Hungry Planet, which pictures the food each family eats in one week or one month.

Interesting look at what life is like for people who are trying to get by (and are not getting by) on minimum wage, working at places like Walmart.
