I got this book on the recommendation of a friend for my 10-year old granddaughter. I read it before sending it to her. I think she will enjoy reading it. It's about a princess who doesn't want to be the usual proper princess. In my day we would have called her a "tom boy." She runs away from home so that she doesn't have to marry the prince her parents chose for her and finds herself involved in a world of dragons, wizards, and witches, and loving it. While this isn't my genre of reading, I think my granddaughter will like it.

This classic was read by our book club recently. What a wonderful discussion we had about the characters and times in California's Salinas Valley. It takes you through the saga of a family and a modern retelling of the Book of Genesis.

Written in 2003--Ruth loves making cakes as a strees reliever. She soon has ultimate stress in her life: her husband loses his job, her father arrives unexpectedly, her mother (long divorced) also moves in, and her teenage daughter is less than coopertive. You'll enjoy reading how Ruth handles all of this with humor and baking. Her wonderful cake recipes are included as a bonus in this delightful book.

I really enjoyed reading this book about an extraordinary cat. I usually read dog books, but the writer captured my attention and held it. It's about two lost soles (one human, one feline) that find one another and help each other heal. A true story about a young man who is trying to overcome a long-term drug addiction. He finds friendship with a street cat. James Bowen gives us a clear picture of what it's like to live hand to mouth on the streets of London as a a street musician. Bob the cat accompanies him and quickly becomes an asset to him. I really recommend this book. As it turns out, a movie was made of this book. But I think the book is much better.

I'm a big fan of Nicholas Sparks, and this book gave me such insight into who is. He had to overcome so much personal tragedies. Now that I know his background, I may have to reread some of his books with what I learned about him and his family in mind. The travels he and his brother had together were interesting, but the better parts of the book were the stories about his growing up. I highly recommend this book.

This book was our book clubs choice for February. We so enjoyed the story and were drawn to it because we are all of the age of the same age as Cora and Sam. What a wonderful and caring family and friends and neighbors. Sam's desire for independence and respect hit close to home. The book is well-written with touches of humor. I highly recommend this story.

Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. She writes in the voices of her characters. This one written in 2005 has you so involved. Delia suddenly finds she was kidnapped and raised by her father when she was a very young girl. She now has a child of her own. She has to deal with her father's arrest for her kidnapping, reunion with her mother (whom she thought had died), and her fiance's addiction. I could not put this book down!

I'm always looking for an unusual and clever book to suggest to my book club, and this was it. It is a bit of a strange story told by Bee, The young daughter of a brilliant mother and father, in the form of emails, letters, reports, emails and texts. It takes place in Seattle, Washington. Another reason I liked it because I also have lived there. I liked the satirical comments about the area And Microsoft. The characters are a bit unusual and it took a little getting used to. But I liked the author's observations about Seattle, private school silliness, neighbors, women in architecture, and Canadians that added zest to the story. The book kept me engrossed, because it is zany and it will have you laughing all the way through.
