Book starts a little slow. My daughter almost lost interest because the mermaid wasn't mentioned until half way through. After the book was finished she really loved it!

My daughter is not a fast reader but the fun and excitement of this book carried her through it in about 1 week. She didn't put it down and we have now ordered the next two in the series. Thumbs up from my 13 year old.
