This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this writer.

Cathy and Don Angel are on their way to Connecticut on Christmas Eve and end up dying tragically in a train accident.

Shortly after their death, they meet the angel Gabriel. Gabriel tells them that in order to receive their wings, each one will need to perform three miracles by midnight Christmas Eve.

The first miracle is to convince Jimmy O'Connor, an alcoholic, to leave the bar and go have dinner with his family on Christmas Eve.

Next, find Maggie St. John, a homeless lady, a home for Christmas.

After that, prevent Rowena Trent, a legally blind person, from committing suicide.

Thereafter, Sister Marie Claire is dying from cancer, and the Angel's have to "make death easy for her".

Finally, both Cathy and Don are transported back to the location of the train accident. Their last miracle is to save Cassandra and "the boys".

This book will definitely tug at your heartstrings! I am surprised that this book has not been made into a Hallmark movie!

I definitely recommend this book for anyone who needs an uplifting read.

Another great book from my favorite author!

Three women, each one burdened with a different problem, decide to spend the summer in Nantucket. Vicki recently discovered lung cancer, is mother to Blaine, four years old, and Porter, a seven month old baby. Brenda, Vicki's younger sister, an English Professor, newly fired from her teaching position for sleeping with one of her students. Additionally, charged with vandalizing an original Jackson Pollock. Melanie, Vicki's friend, her husband, Peter, left her for a younger woman. Moreover, she just found out she is pregnant but has not told Peter.

Brenda originally agreed to babysit Vicki's children while she deals with the awful side effects of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, soon she finds out that attempting to supervise little boys while writing a script becomes a difficult task, so she decides to hire a part-time babysitter.

At this point, I am starting to get frustrated with Melanie because she is available to help with Vicki's kids, but her excuse is, she is suffering from terrible morning sickness and yearning over Peter.

Therefore, Brenda hires Josh, a young college student whom she meets at the hospital where Vicki is receiving her chemotherapy treatment. As predicted, Josh and Vicki end up having a summer affair.

Finally, even though the ending is not surprising, it is an easy, quick, enjoyable book, and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Before We Forget Kindness (Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Bk 5)
Review Date: 6/6/2025

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in the "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" series.

Just like the previous books in the series, four individuals visit a mysterious Tokyo café to utilize time travel.

The first person is a boy named Yuki Kiriyama, seven years old, who desires a trip back in time when his parents first announce that they are getting a divorce. When his parents first told him they are getting a divorce, he reacted by crying. Since the divorce, he has seen how happy they have become. Thus, he wants to return to that particular day and time but instead show them his support.

The second person is a widow by the name of Megumi Sakura, who wants to travel back in time so that her late husband can name their baby girl.

The third person is a young woman named Yoko Kawashima, who returns to the past to apologize to her father for eloping against his wishes. She is sorry regarding her situation and would like an opportunity to apologize to her father regarding her marriage.

The last person is another young female name,Tsugumi who steps back in time to meet Ayame at the café and amend their relationship before she dies.

I enjoyed reading each one of these "mini stories".  My only complaint is, since I had not read the previous books in the series, I was not familiar with the main characters at the café.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I thought it was hilarious!

Olive Brewster is twenty-seven years old, works as a fishmonger in Manchester Indian Market, and lives with her brother  Alex and his girlfriend Donna (who reminds me of a typical "Karen").

Birdie Lively, originally from New York is Olive's best friend. Unfortunately, she has lupus and the disease is causing her kidneys' to shutdown. Her dying wish is for Olive to fly out to New York and give Chuck Allen a written letter because he was her Big Sexy Love even though he broke her heart.

Since Olive has never been on an airplane before, she is absolutely terrified of flying. As a result, she drinks quite a bit of alcohol before and during the flight. Consequently, she needs assistance walking to the lavatory thus, she attempts to get the attention of the flight attendant by pressing the call button to no avail. Therefore, she requests the support, from the rude American tv writer, Seth Harmon, who happens to sit across from her in first class. Regrettably, he misunderstands her appeal for help and believes she wants to join the "mile high club". Alas, she has waited too long and informs him that he needs to turn around and cover his ears because she needs "to piddle" really bad. Subsequently, Olive is humiliated and hopes that once the plane lands that she will never see Seth ever again.

Sadly, Olive's adventures in New York become disastrous at best. For example, she follows a runner into Gramercy Park in order to hide behind a tree so she could, fix her tights. Woefully, another "Karen" sees her and demands to know where her key is and immediately calls the police to report a pervert touching herself. Olive panics and grabs the key from around her neck and quickly leaves the park. The next day, Olive watches a skit from Sunday Night Live, "Watch Me Piddle!" written by Seth imitating Olive in the plane toilet.

Olive is humiliated by the comedy sketch but hopes that no one in New York recognizes when lo and behold as she is attempting to disguise herself, she runs into Seth. Hence, Olive is absolutely livid with him and chews him out. Seth feels bad and promises to help her find the elusive Chuck Allen. During the search, both Olive and Seth fall in love.

I loved this story and will be looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This novella was first published in BLOCK, a quilting magazine published by the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

This mystery novella takes place during the Christmas time during a quilting retreat and fabric designer's convention in Hamilton, Missouri.

At the time I purchasd this book, I did not realize that this is the second book in the series.

To be honest, I had a difficult time following the story because

I did not know the background on the main characters.  Additionally, since I am not a quilter, the verbiage was very unfamiliar to me. Moreover, the story did not flow very well, and many mistakes during the editing process were missed before this story was released.

Anyway, Jenny Doan, with help from Cherry Carmine, her assistant, organizes a quilting retreat for all six of her friends which just happens to coincide with the first designer's convention at her family's Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Jenny's friends - Bernie and Dotty, sisters and the only locals besides Jenny and Cherry, Helen, Maura, Mickey, Tilly.

Mickey successfully sells a fabric line to Harper Wovens and soon receives a beautiful card containing a creepy message written in a satire of a Christmas song "Deck the halls with bows of folly...Time to purge designer dollies..."  Shortly after, Mickey is murdered and therefore becomes the first victim.

To be honest, I thought the best part of the book is the creepy messages written on the cards that are given to victims before they are killed.

What a beautiful, heartwarming Christmas story about family, love, and tradition.

During the depression, James' father had unfortunately lost his job in Philadelphia. Therefore, his parents sends him to live with his mother's parents on their farm in Michigan.

On Christmas Eve, James receives two Christmas presents - a walnut-handled pocket knife from his grandfather and a hand-knitted scarf from his grandmother. Afterwards, Ella, James' grandmother, plays Christmas songs on the melodeon organ. Thereafter, Ella tells Will, James' grandfather, that they should give the melodeon to the church for Christmas since she does not play it anymore because of her arthritis. Unfortunately, Ella insists that the melodeon be delivered to the church that night despite the severe snowstorm.

With some help from Christmas magic, Will and James successfully transport the melodeon to the church just in time for Christmas morning!

This book is a collection of Christmas memories and traditions from many amazing women. The author has compiled all the stories into three sections:

Part One - The Memories of Christmas Past

Part Two - The Memories of Christmas Present

Part Three - Creating the Memories of Christmas Future

Part One is definitely my most-liked section in the entire book, while Part Three is my least liked section.

Here are a few of my favorites:

"Another Kind of Christmas" by Naomi Judd - Describing the year that Naomi, Larry (her husband), Wynonna, and Ashley decide to "take Christmas back from the media".

"The Simple Pleasures of Christmas" by Jeanie Matthews Price - Recounting the present her mother gave to the entire family because of the sincerity and love that it symbolized.

"Our Christmas Crèches" by Terry Meeuwsen - I giggled over Terry's son J.P. telling his mother not to forget "those three wise guys".  Additionally, I chuckled over the rearranging of the manger scene by her children. For example, the "three wise guys being placed on the roof and the sheep standing on their heads".

My first comment is, who decided to use this iconic picture of Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield for the cover of this book?  To be honest. I thought the subject of the book was concerning Hollywood, female sexuality, and jealousy among the actresses back in the 1950s.

Boy, was I shocked to learn that this is actually a memoir written by a transgender!  But then I thought this would be a great opportunity to broaden my education regarding transgender lifestyle.

Unfortunately, I stopped reading at 105 because the book is so dull and slow paced that I soon lost interest.

After reading Shady Hollow, I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. Even though this novel wasn't quite as good as the previous one, I still enjoyed this tale of the woodland creatures.

Julia Elkin, wife of Joe Elkin, supposedly walked out on Joe over ten years ago, but then her bones are accidentally discovered at Cold Clay Orchards. Both Vera Vixen and Deputy Orville Braun together investigate who is behind this murder.

My favorite creatures in this story are:

Vera Vixen - The foxy reporter for the Shady Hollow Herald.

Deputy Orville Braun - The hard-working large brown bear.

Lenore Lee - A dark-as-night raven who owns Nevermore Books, the town's bookshop.

Joe Elkin - The genial giant of a moose who owns Joe's Mug, the town coffee shop.

Esmeralda von Beaverpelt - The hardworking waitress at Joe's Mug.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this writer.

The Dunne Brothers is a 1970s band that originated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is comprised of the following:

1) Billy Dunne - lead singer
2) Graham Dunne - lead guitar
3) Warren Rhodes - drummer
4) Pete Loving - bassist
5) Eddie Loving - rhythm guitar

The Dunne Brothers saw Karen Karen, keyboardist, performing in Baltimore and asked her to join the group.

Rod Reyes, a tour manager, hears them play and suggests they move to LA because all his real contacts are out there. So the band moves to California and signs a record contract with Runner Records. All seven of them (including Billy's girlfriend, Camilla) rent a house in Topanga Hills.

After their first self-titled album is released, the band, now known as The Six, leaves on a thirty city tour. The night before they leave, Camilla tells Billy she is seven weeks pregnant. While on the tour, Billy succumbs to the temptations of alcohol, drugs, and sex. Regrettably, Camilla surprises him with a visit and discovers him having sex with another woman. On the day Camilla goes into labor Teddy Price, the producer, pulls Billy out of the tour and tells him he has two choices - he can either be a good husband and father or go into rehab.

Billy enters rehab, and the rest of the tour is canceled. Following sixty days in rehab, Billy is released, and he begins writing songs again. Once The Six record all ten songs for the album, Rich Palentino, CEO of Runner Records, did not think any of the songs would be a chart topper. Thus, Teddy wanted to make "Honeycomb" a duet hence, Daisy Jones enters the scene. In the beginning, Billy and Daisy are as compatible as oil and water.

Once Honeycomb is released, it debuts at number 86 but quickly climbs the charts. As a result, Daisy Jones is booked as the opening act for The Six's world-tour. Unfortunately, Billy has a relapse to drinking and drug use, and Daisy decides to go to rehab and leave the band. Furthermore, the rest of the band members are exhausted from the constant touring. Finally, Rod is forced to cancel the remaining tour dates.

After I finished this book, I could have sworn I read a non-fiction memoir of a famous 70s band.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this writer.

Josh Michaels lives in Evergreen, Colorado, and works remotely as a contracted computer programmer. On October 1st, his neighbor, Ryan, asks him if he can watch his ex-girlfriend's pregnant dog, Lucy, temporarily while he is out of town. Unfortunately, two days later, Lucy starts to have contractions therefore, Josh quickly takes her to the vet's office. Dr Becker, delivers the bad news that all of the puppies are stillborn due to her poor diet. Once he arrives back home, he discovers a strange box in the bed of his pickup truck. Written on the box with a black marker is "4 THE VET" and contains five small puppies. Lucy's maternal instinct takes over, and she nurses the orphan babies.

Meanwhile, Josh is concerned regarding Lucy and the puppies and calls Animal Rescue. Kerri assures him that Lucy will not harm the puppies and he will have six months to adopt out the puppies. Additionally, Kerri starts checking in on Lucy and the puppies while giving advice to Josh in raising the puppies while Josh continues to find excuses to spend time with Kerri and get better acquainted.

Before the puppie's eyes are open, Josh decides to name them and create a spreadsheet: Lola the Cuddle Dog, Oliver the Explorer, Sophie the Sports Dog, Cody Momma's Boy, and Rufus Loves Cody. Unfortunately, less than two months later, Josh discovers that Cody is blind.

Before Christmas, Josh finds out that Ryan stole Lucy from his ex-girlfriend Serena via a lost pet flyer at the Animal Rescue. He contacts Serena, and both decide she will come by to pick up Lucy right after Christmas when all the puppies have been adopted out.

Sophie is adopted by Jody and Andy, a couple whose youngest has just left for college. Next, Lola is adopted by Matt and his daughter, Juliet. Finally, Oliver is adopted by an older man who loved to go hiking. Regrettably, the people who plan on adopting Rufus are a no-show. But Serena shows up to pick up Lucy. Next, the family that adopted Cody returned him to the shelter because they did not realize the difficulty in caring for a sightless dog blind at birth. Josh decides right at that point that he is keeping both Rufus and Cody hence, both Kerri and Josh end up raising the two dogs together as a couple.

What a beautiful, heartwarming Christmas story!

This book was chosen for my monthly Bible study group. In a nutshell, the author encourages readers to let go of the rigid, achievement-oriented mindset of the first half of life to enter a new phase in retirement.

The book had quite a few gems of wisdom:

"We grow spiritually much more by doing it wrong than by doing it right."

"Pass the lessons learned on to others - or there has been no real gift at all."

My biggest complaint with the book is the pace is slow, and it was not the easiest to comprehend.

I saw this book on my bookshelf, and after laughing at the title, decided to reread this book! Although, I have to be honest since this was originally written in 1985, some of the jokes are outdated but there are still a lot of wonderful gems.

Here are a few of my favorite snippets since they remind me of my own cat:

1) "Cat's hearing apparatus is built to allow human voice to go in one ear and out the other."

2) "Cats grow in size throughout the night - or so it seems to the owner who bears up under their weight."

3) Chapter 9 "Can the Neurotic Cat Be Cured? No"

Finally, I do love the illustrations.

I picked up this book at a used bookstore.

I enjoyed the bible scriptures, the inspirational messages, and the uplifting quotations. But the fabricated accounts based on the iconic stories in the Bible were not that great.

Here are two of my favorite quotes:

"You are...infinitely dear to the Father, unspeakably precious to Him.  You are never, for one second, alone." -- Norma Dowty

"Give for the joy of giving -- if you only "give to get" you are not giving, you are trading" -- Mary C. Crowley
