When I look at this book title, I remember nothing memorable about the book only that it seemed it was meant for a male audience instead of Female. Note: this book (as my other books) has a Bookcrossing.com sticker in it.

This was a fabulous book about two women who were friends from college and remained friends, across country though thick and thin.
It was an enjoyable read and difficult to put down.

As Atwood is my favorite author, I was not impressed by this book. It had a heavy political background that I could not get into.

A horrific novel about a woman who puts all her trust and money into a therapist.
After reading this novel, you wonder how much you can trust a therapist to the full extent.
Or should they be known as the-RAPIST.

This book was a fast read (of around 140 pages).
The spoiler on this is that I saw the movie first. The book was first released in 1993.
While the movie was based on the book - it was difficult to compare the film to the book.
Movie: Had 4 characters in the Hole.
Book: Had 6 characters.
Movie: stated how long they were in the hole and the outcome of all characters involved.
Book: Stated what happened to two characters.
The problem I had with the book is that I saw the movie first and enjoyed it much more than the book.
As for calling the book a psychological thriller - the movie was much more intense.

This book was well written and kept my interest that I couldn't put it down. I was also confused with the switching of the narration because I had no idea who was talking at that point. It was an outsider looking in to foreshadow what will happen soon (not that the reader couldn't already figure it out because it was a predictable story).
The story is about an overweight British girl, Jemima Jones who is completely obsessed with the way she looks. She thinks that no one likes her because she is so overweight and no man could take a romantic interest in her. I felt like yelling at the book saying, "You know Jemima, there is more to a person than just looks!" The book made everyone in the world seem shallow and that men and women only like others because they are thin, gorgeous and are healthy.
This is why I had some problems with the way the material was presented in the book. I felt sorry for Jemima, living with two roommates who were nice to her face but rude to her behind her back. When she met someone (a man), they always had an ulterior motive for 'getting the guy.' That part could be one of the realistic points of the book.
I felt that the moral of the story was to lose weight until you look like a model in a magazine and then the world is in the palm of your hand. You can then get anything you want in life.
Yes, this story is a modern day fairy tale.

If anyone has seen the movie "The Magdalene Sisters", this book is a milder version of it. It kept my interest but I felt the the main character was not treated as harshly as the stories I've heard about the Magdalene Asylums.

I was not impressed by this book at all. The author keeps reminding the reader of how "creative" she was prior to being on prozac. This is not a great story to really understand someone on Prozac.

I believe I'm in the minoriy for not liking this book.
I never felt sorry for Mirabelle, however I didn't feel anything at all for her. She was waiting around working in a department store (shop girl?) waiting for things to happen.
She never made one attempt to make something happen herself.
The characters lacked depth and that makes the reader feel nothing for them.
At 130 pages it's not a waste of time, but for me, it was a struggle.

The story "The Class Trip" was pretty good, but I just could not get through the story "The Mustache.
