A great way to go green is to make sure your old stuff gets recycled when you're finished with it by donating it to some type of local charity. Equally great, though -- maybe even better, since it means you won't buy new stuff to replace the old -- is to arrange a swap.
Several Web sites -- such as,, and -- offer an easy route to people who will take your old items off your hands. Even better, you can shop guilt-free for "new" stuff. Although some of these online services require users to sign up, membership is often free.
