Chuck Daly's basketball team, if it were a motor vehicle, would be a bus - a Badmobile, not very streamlined, but what an engine! When you pop the hood to take a look at it,the first thing you notice is that the Pistons finally got their ring job done. And by the way, the glitzy hood ornament on the '88-'89 model is really a trophy...
Over the long and winding and sometimes bumpy road that is the NBA season, all this bus did was display the best defense in history since the league adopted the 24-second clock... maintain a work ethic that would make factory workers and assembly-line labores stand up and salute... and over the course of the journey, provide convincing proof that a gang of well-paid strong personalities with sensitive egos can be bonded into a Team, the likes of which the NBA has never seen before.
