Mrs. Mike is based on the true story of the character's namesake, Katherine Mary who met the authors in Los Angeles in the 1940's. What a different type of a book and I loved it! It's the story of a girl from Boston suffering from pleurisy who goes to live with her uncle in middle-of-nowhere Canada to improve. While there, she finds love and embarks on a life very different from the bustling Boston refinement she came from. Don't be fooled, this is not a book for the squeamish or faint-hearted, it describes the true brutality of nature and man and the real world in the Canadian Northwest. I truly enjoyed this.
