This author knows her way around ships and the sea -- and it shows in this great story. When the story was on the sea, it was superb. However, I found that the Ashton family was hard to take. I couldn't imagine a family that would scream and threaten each other continually.
Captain Brendan Merrick was a charmer and a wonderful leader of his men. I thought he was more likely a real person than Mira Ashton, who was over-the-top at times. I also found it hard to imagine that the men of the ship would allow a woman on board; women on ships were considered to be bad luck.
Although I am griping about a lot of things, I did enjoy the story.
