There are 2 books in one. The first is BETWEEN THE THUNDER (also released as a single novel). 4 and 1/2 stars

This book takes place during my favorite time in American history: the Civil War. However, the action looks at the War Between the States from a different angle Southern guerillas capturing Union goods and diverting them for use by the Confederacy.

There are plots and sub-plots aplenty. I think the most interesting is the story about the two main men characters in the story. Sean and Ben were roommates during their years at West Point. During senior year, they had a lively competition over the lovely Melody.

The night before graduation, Sean went to Ben and told him the truth about Melody she craved having men compete over her and she wasnt honest about her feelings for Ben (she didnt love him). This led to a huge fight. At the beginning of the story, they have been estranged for 15 years.

Sean joined the Confederacy while Ben took a commission in the Union Army. Sean leads the guerilla group and Ben has been sent to capture and hang them.

They meet when Seans sister, Ryan, and a Confederate soldier find Ben in a rattlesnake nest, gravely injured. Ben becomes Seans prisoner. Thus begins a fascinating character study of these two men.

It is a beautifully written tale. Enjoy!

Second is MIRACLE OF THE HEART: And I think it is of the 2nd water! 3 and 1/2 stars

This is a thin story about two men in love with the same woman. One man is on the Union side and the other wears the Confederacy uniform.

The ONLY thing I found interesting about this tale revolved around the suffering of the civilians. Many civilians starved during the Civil War because the warring parties stole, confiscated or burned their food stuffs.

This story made a point of the scarcity of food.
