A short but interesting story of the efforts of two women from Maine who served as nurses on the battlefield and in the hospitals in the days when women "didn't do that."
The book includes a photograph of Isabella Fogg, but none for Sarah Sampson. A number of other related photographs and wood cuts are included in the book. Most of these are of wounded soldiers, hospital wagons and ships, male and female nurses and even the interior of hospitals. The only woodcut included which I didn't see a need for was one of Fort Sumter. The book also includes a long poem celebrating the female nurses of the war, written by Clara Barton.
