Fantasy inspired by fairy tales... not really fairy tales. I found them negative and often creepy (eew, rather than Aaaa!).
For "adult" interpretations of fairy tales, I'd recommend Robin McKinley, Patricia McKilip, Mercedes Lackey, and Orson Scott Card.
