The dialogue fairly sparkles and there's lots of interaction between Lily Salt and Roen Shepard. Add in 4 sharp children and the reader has a rollicking story. The couple decides on a marriage of convenience to protect Roen from a past mistake (a beautiful woman who is riding the rails to convince him to marry her). Lily has been struggling to provide for her children; Roen's financial support will make things easier.

Lily is older than Roen but he is wise beyond his years. I liked the fact that he had an unconventional family-of-origin and he uses insights he's learned through his interactions with them to solve problems. The children are charming and, instead of distracting from the storyline, they help move it along. Another wonderful story by Jo Goodman.
