Second in the Autumn Rain series, the others being Spring Rains and Secret Nights. Centered around three young men of regency London.
In this one, after her father died plain Kate was at the mercy of her ambitious stepmother and beautiful, spiteful stepsister, who helped pressure her into a disastrous marriage to Count Alexei Volsky. Bell Townsend, who had fled London to Russia to avoid scandal, was her only hope of escape.
This is quite a gripping, gritty, sometimes grim story of strong emotions. Some of the material in it may be too strong for some tastes; it's not your average tea-drinkin' regency. But it held my interest to the end.
