This is the story of the Whitelaws, a family whose values are as far flung as the territory they helped to settle, and whose most recent generation has pioneered the landscape of dysfunction. The patriarch, Sunny Jim, exerts his perverse control even when dead by means of a last will and testment that binds the family fortune to a marriage that ought, by general assent, to be rent asunder. the charms of this particular son in law, lately released from prison, are potent if short lived. His estranged wife is quite literally bedevilled by them. And as her mother and sister court theis twisted inheritance, her own yearning points towards a way of life once habitual on the western plains but now embodies only by Bill Champion the family ranch foreman and Evelyns one true compass.
This was very well written and i did enjoy this novel alot. the author can discribe the sky and the birds and even a rock, and the dawn with such grace you will want to go there to see for yourself, and he can make you laugh out loud which i found wonderful.
