This is the first book I have read by this author and absolutely, awesome book!

Bernadette is a famous architect who designs and helps construct the 20 Mile House using only materials found within 20 miles of the construction site. Regrettably, the house is purchased by John Sayre, aka Nigel Miles-Murray, Bernadette's feuding neighbor. As a result, Nigel demolishes the house in one day, and Bernadette hides from the spotlight and never builds another house.

Bernadette's daughter Bee, an eighth grader, earns straight A's and requests a family trip to Antarctica as a reward. Unfortunately, Bernadette, who is increasingly becoming agoraphobic disappears right before the trip, prompting Bee to investigate her past and, as a result, discovers her mother's secrets.

The novel is told through series of emails, letters, and other documents that Bee assembles in order to understand her mother's disappearance and the mysterious skeletons she's been keeping in her closet.

I would definitely recommend this quirky, beautiful story about a close mother-daughter relationship.Â
