My advice on reading this book is to stop five chapters before the end. Up until then, it shapes up to be a pretty good story, maybe a little long-winded and slow-paced in the beginning, but with interesting and engaging characters and some actual drama outside of the main plot, all of which comes together quite nicely . . . as I said, five chapters from the end.

Without giving too much away, the ending is entirely unnecessary. Why? Because she had me. She had me feeling invested in the characters and the situation. Picoult is a good writer and a good storyteller, and in my opinion, she completely cheapened an otherwise good story with an ending designed to jerk an emotion out of you. Instead, though, it jerked me out of the world of the story. It didn't even read like the same book anymore. I can't go into too much detail without spoiling the book, so I'll just say that it was a strong story up until that point, and then the last five chapters completely ruined it for me.
