While studying a newly-discovered planet, Kirk leaves McCoy in charge, and promptly disappears, courtesy of some heretofore unknown powers of the planet's inhabitants. McCoy is further tested when he's pinned between the demands of Starfleet and the appearance of a Klingon vessel in orbit around the planet. And that's just for starters.
