Hannah Swensen's sometimes boyfriend Norman Rhodes is interested in buying the house of Drug Store clerk Rhonda Scharf. Hannah's mother is showing the house to Norman and Hannah when she discovers Rhonda's body in the basement. Hannah quickly takes in the scene. There are jars of preserves smashed on the floor of the basement. In the kitchen is a lemon meringue pie from Hannah's shop with two pieces missing. Who was Rhonda sharing the pie with? With not too much to go on, Hannah starts looking into this mysterious death.

The fourth book in the Hannah Swensen series felt a little slow to me. Hannah does her usual job of asking a lot of questions to people she believes may be suspects. In between interviewing suspects, she is baking cookies for her shop and trying to figure out what dessert to make for the July 4th celebration. One annoying storyline was Hannah deciding she needed to lose weight because her pants were too tight. She will not get on the scales; she will just diet until she fits into those pants. I got sick of listening to her harping about her weight. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
