Well, umm. Let's start out with a spoiler - the cat gets killed, and his poor dead body keeps reappearing. I hated that. Okay that's out of the way. I like the prospect of a house-sitter as a protagonist in murder mysteries. I like the Cotswold setting - the author describes it very well. But really, Thea seems kind of dim. I believed in her panicked reactions to various emergencies, that seems in character. And I guess the rest is too, but I don't like it... She's told her main job is to keep the pony alive, but she doesn't get enough information about what to do with him and she doesn't bother to look it up even though she has the internet. I did like all the mysterious neighbors but in the end it all seemed a bit too convoluted (although Thea mentions a certain Agatha Christie book, look, a clue!). But then there was Jocelyn. Thea's response to learning that her sister's husband has been abusing her is to wonder what Jocelyn did to provoke it. That's infuriating. I bought a bunch of these at the library book sale and figured I would go through the series, but I don't know... maybe I'll like her better in the third.
