Lainey O'Toole was on her way to culinary school In New York when her car totally dies. in Stoney Ridge where she grew up. Believe me her childhood was not good but she learns to forgive and love her mean step dad who is a shunned Amish man. His sister Bertha is a character like I have never read about in a book.Bertha is big, bossy and In control of all situations and she is Amish and has a heart of gold. As a child Lainey was very close to Bertha and That friendship is renewed. Bess Bertha's Granddaughter comes to stay for the summer and falls in love with Billy, But he moves on too fast with Betsy Mast whom he can not marry.He breaks Bess's heart. Bess, Bertha and Lainey become very close and Bertha does some things that brings her son, Jonah from Ohio. Jonah and Lainey fall in love, but a woman shows up with 2 kids from Ohio and says that she is engaged to Jonah. Luckily the woman moves on. Lainey becomes Amish because God tells her too but because she has not had a family she loves the closeness of the Amish Lifestyle. There vare many interesting threads in this story but they come together at the end. Suzanne has a gift for the people living their belief in God in their life.

This is a great book.
