C. I. David Joy is a New Testament Scholar and a member of the Society for Biblical Studies in India, a Learned society, incorporating Biblical Scholars of the Protestant, Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Charismatic traditions.
Joy teaches at the United Theological College, Bengaluru, an autonomous college affiliated to the Senate of Serampore College , Serampore.
Well-versed in Greek, Joy has been authoring many books. He is the former Editor of Bangalore Theological Forum published biannually by the United Theological College, Bengaluru.
Joy pursued bachelor's and post-graduate studies in the United Theological College, Bengaluru obtaining a B. D. and M. Th.. While studying in the College, Rev. Fr. Dr. P. A. Sampath Kumar, Ph.D. (Strasbourg) happened to be the Professor of David Joy.
Since 1999, he has been teaching at the College in Bengaluru.
In 2005, Joy was awarded a Ph.D after completion of research studies in New Testament by the University of Birmingham, Birmingham.
Mark and its Subalterns: A Hermeneutical Paradigm for a Postcolonial Context was the outcome of the doctoral dissertation done under the supervision of Paula Gooder.
