This book is as laid back, weird, and idealistic as you think it's going to be. He's cute to look at, and I could listen to him read the phone book any day, but there's no Pulitzer Prize waiting to be awarded for this book. Basically, there is great insight as to how McConaughey thinks, feels, and judges a situation. I'm more convinced now that he really is a nice guy, comes from "salt of the earth" type of folks, and has been very blessed. I'm happy to find out he believes that too. It sounds like he has a great wife and beautiful kids. I'm happy he's successful, and that he loves his mama enough to let her enjoy his fame too. I lent this book to my mama. She said she didn't make it through Chapter One. "It was just too....I don't know. He's different."

I mostly enjoyed this book. It's a bit different. There was humor and reflection, some tidbits of wisdom to ponder but often a meandering personal search for meaning that the reader may or may not relate to. It's definitely interesting. I admired some of his choices and the fact he has been true to himself. I would really love to see that Texas treehouse!

Good book made up with interesting insights. I enjoyed most of this book. It was crazy to see Matthew's upbringing. It just goes to show you can grow up with a dysfunctional childhood and turn out fine. I also like the advice and input that Matthew gave as well. Even though I didn't agree with some of the things he said, there was a lot that opened my mind up when, I myself, am going through a difficult time. I've always liked how McConaughey seemed to do what he wanted and not what everyone else wanted (especially Hollywood). I was impressed with how he thanked God at the Oscars. He was applauded for it and also berated. Yet, he held true. I found it a bit weird that when he did the appreciations in the back of the book, God was not of them. Makes me wonder if he changed his religious view or if big Hollywood actually swayed him. Who knows... still a good book and still think he is a class A actor.

"Greenlights" by Matthew McConaughey is his autobiography. Crisp, clean, yet meandering and bubbly, like a mountain brook. Absolutely loved the tone and texture of this book. Awesome storyteller! My very brief summary - easy on the reading; heavy on the thinking.[5/5]

My review is for the audio book. Matthew McConaughey, reads his own book. I think you will get more from the book if you allow yourself to have this book read to you by him. His inflections on his writing gives it more meaning.

I really had a hard time with some of the stories. The bluntness, the raw, the violence, the language. Then some stories awed me. I love hearing his say GREENLIGHT!

I felt like I got to know him more and to understand him more, and even to understand my waning interest in his movies when he stopped doing ROM-COMS. Then I felt guilty for loving him in ROM-COMS, and ROM-COMS in general. I never realized they might be emasculating to the male actors and men in general. I have not seen many of his movies in many years. I have caught some glimpses of his personal life and humanitarian outreaches, and that was nice but not enough to make me want to watch his movies anymore. He even addresses that in his book, the lack of a an interested audience/public in his movies.

The description of his wedding really did sum up the whole philosophy of his life. He sure mixes religious believes, and makes it work. Don't forget to listen to his PS list. It was worth the listen.
